Teens Views on the Church

Church, a holy gathering place for Christians to come together as one and rejoice in the teachings of Jesus Christ. Upon entering Church we are asked to be respectful and quiet as the priest goes about his secular interpretations on what Jesus has taught. As young children we are brought up knowing that Church is a place to reconcile and talk to God. However, as teens we now stray away from the simple fact that Church is where we are at our highest point in holiness. Most teens now a days find going to Church a daily chore where we must wake up early on a Sunday just to sit there and listen to some person speak for an hour. Unfortunately, the world has turned teens into narrow minded human beings in the sense that we rely solely on technology to teach us news and events that had happened and are yet to happen that we forget what life was like during times of Christ. When you walk into a Church on a Sunday morning or a Saturday night you rarely see teens sitting by themselves without their parents there to force them to go. This is because we believe there are better things in life to be doing then becoming closer to our creator Jesus Christ. I am just curious on your opinions on how teens such as yourselves view the church on a daily basis in todays society.

  1. I definitely agree with you that most teens look at church as a boring chore, and do not go unless persuaded by someone else, such as a parent. But I'm convinced that parents are more responsible for teens not going to church than teens are. Many parents take their child to mass every Sunday and expect them to automatically "get it". Those parents fail to give a proper explanation as to why church is important, and why we need to go every Sunday. If more teens understood how important church is, and didn't look at it as a chore, more teens would be in church on their own.

  2. i feel that going to church once a week and waking up early on sundays not so much a big deal. it has come to me as a routine that i do once a week and i really do not mind. maybe its because i have been going to church since i was younger with my family that am just used to going. some teens just do not want to wake up on sundays and are just to lazy to go on Saturdays. for me i hate going on saturdays because it messes with my routine and i am usually trying to do some thing that night. also n sundays i have lunch with my family when i get home from mass, so that also makes it easier to go ever sunday.

  3. I quote my friend on this idea, "What the hell is a Jesus?" an interesting opinion to your above statement, I don't believe that the world has become narrow minded, just so spacious and yet full, we wander and roam with no sensibility. We aren’t taught what church is so then it becomes a burden rather than a chore. We can comprehend the necessity of a chore, but despise the aspect of a burden. No one has ever truly explained why one must attend church other than the lame explanations of, “You have to.” I personally don't believe that church attendance really affirms a belief in God, because I feel close to his presence by simply enjoying life. The cluster of our nature can leave us seeking things that aren't really there. Mass tries to teach how to live with the word of God, but it can't grab us by the hand and tell us how to conduct 'proper' social etiquette.
